This history was written in the spring of 2000 when I was in  eighth grade . For several years after I wrote it, the text was available online and it became a reference for other articles, Wikipedia entries, and even college courses. I have placed the report here for posterity and amusement (how could I have possibly left out Python??). In 2004, I made two updates in response to e-mailed criticisms, but the text is otherwise unchanged. Hi all,  I'm currently working for RIM (creators of the BlackBerry) in  Waterloo, and will be coming back to UVic this summer as a Campus  Ambassador for the company, along with another comp sci student from  UVic.  One of the ideas that I wanted to see the light was the Development  Workshop for the BlackBerry platform. RIM will be soon releasing  updated versions of many of their public development APIs, and in  light of the BlackBerry App World being pushed to the market I thought  it will be great timing for us to get more people developing cool apps  for the platform.  I gathered enough internal support here at RIM for this initiative, so  you can be sure that the workshop materials will be of top quality.  We're thinking of running a development contest as well, after the  workshops, to get people engaged in the development.
